AGM
MINUTES
by Flat.
OFFICERS OF THE CLUB:
- Tony Smee resigned as secretary. He has been replaced by
Chris Douglas.
- Mark d’Inverno remains as Captain.
- Peter Simmonds remains as Vice-Captain.
- Chris Johnstone appointed Social Secretary.
FIXTURES:
This will largely be left to Chris, but it seems likely we will keep the
tours, think about the six-a-side (opinion at the table split on this one),
and perhaps keep some of the summer bank holiday weekends fixture free.
We
may also try to drop a fixture between the tours, if they fall as closely as
they did last year, but as this was a nice fixture last year, we may try to
keep it after all.
KIT:
Most of it is currently with Mark D’Inverno, I believe, though the two
helmets and the best bat are with Peter Simmonds. The feeling was that
the
kit is stripped down to two of everything, though this means getting hold of
another serviceable bat – perhaps we have some old ones of our own which
could serve, rather than spending cash. No plans were made to spend any
money on bats – though I do propose that Mike Harvey is tasked with bringing
back some good balls from Oz on his trip down under in January, as they’ll
be half the price or less of those we can get of similar quality up in this
hemisphere.
NETS:
These will remain on Mondays, 9-10pm - Peter Simmonds will organise them,
and the cost will remain at six pounds IF we continue to go to Lords.
However, as Lords are generally frightfully unpleasant people to deal with,
we may look elsewhere. This has been taken on by Peter. I’m
proposing we
start them January 12, and run them for 10 or 12 weeks.
FINANCIALS:
We have around £230 funds available to us at present. Two years ago this
was at around £660, though we did buy some kit then with the surplus. A
year ago it was about £380. Costs have gone up – there’s the
website, and
we’ve been using slightly more expensive balls, and more of them. We’ll
need to think about how we continue to fund the club, against a background
of increasing tea prices/match costs (ie Sergeant Men charged us about £120
I think to play at the Bank of England ground, and Hertford is now up at
more than £70 for the day) – but the decision was taken, by vote, to allow
for only a small increase… thus…
MATCH FEES:
Are going up, to eight pounds per player for games within London or very
close nearby (Hit or Miss, Little Missenden, etc) – and for games further
away, they will be at five pounds for players who drive up, and eight for
those who get lifts. The usual rules remain – match managers pay no fee,
the first game is for free.
CARDS:
The feeling was the team wants to keep something on paper/card, and this was
voted on as a yes. But we also decided to look for a cheaper way of
getting
it done (of the cards, three quarters of the cost is the printing, compared
to a quarter on distribution). Chris Johnstone said he would be prepared
to
look into getting something sorted at Clifford Chance – perhaps best that
he, Chris Douglas and Peter Simmonds talk about this when the fixtures
emerge.
MATCH MANAGERS:
Here’s the list: (where two names appear against a month, the first is
the
main match manager, the second the substitute/aid/whatever).
Nets & first game of season if it’s in April: Peter Simmonds
May: Husain Husaini.
June: Julian Lyons
July: Tim Chiari/Graham Hogben.
August: Darrell Brockis/Harry Whitehead.
September: Dave Hargroves/Vijay Hajela.
October: Mike Harvey (if there are any games this month! He is also,
therefore, appointed as back-up for the rest of the season if required.
TOURS:
Still thought of as a good thing –
Suffolk: Richard Maloney.
West Country: Graham Hogben.
BIG THANKS
Were expressed to Tony Smee, and no praise is high enough for the fellow.
And well done to Chris and Graham for the quiz – nb, just why does Flat Pete
roll his trousers up?
Info to follow on nets presently – best regards – Peter.
Addendum from CD: Thanks Flat.
As a result of drunkenness, I forgot to express a wish generally voiced throughout the second half of this season that Tony Smee be invited to become our Chairman. It’s safe to assume that Tony won’t have read this far but I distinctly remember him giving tacit agreement to the idea in a pub somewhere. So if a couple of you can support the proposal we can vote him in before he has time to reconsider.
