WCC v Arkadin at Bedales
School 10th July
Arkadin won by 117
Six men of the
Weekenders plus one woman made themselves available for this one. The hosts
batted first and kindly lent us a sub. The Weekenders attack,
bowling with the unimagined security of a 3/3 field, initially
managed to restrict the top order. But after about 20 overs a
gigantic Australian called Lawrence came to the wicket and hit 83 off 28
balls. Fortunately his innings necessitated lengthy searches in the bushes
or it could have been far worse. After being run ragged for 213 in
thirty-two degree heat the Weekenders collapsed on the grass in front of the
pavilion, unable even to walk the extra few yards to the lavishly laid out
tea. As we lay in foetal positions, groaning and nauseous with
exhaustion, the oppo skipper holding a glass of Champagne in his hand
cheerfully asked 'Lend us a sub will you. One of our chaps has to go back
to town.' We lost by 117 but oh the joy when it was over. There is a
comprehensive account of this match complete with photos, graphics and quotes
from Shakespeare on the Arkadin website: http://arkadincc.wordpress.com/2010/07/11/arkadin-cc-v-weekenders-cc-match-report-2/
