WCC v Oxford Emeriti at
Balliol College 4th July
WCC won by 3 wickets.
'I'm sure this dressing
room's got smaller' opined Dunne, one of the shrewdest brains in Weekenders
history as he stripped off to prepare for this long-standing encounter. Various
causes were suggested, some of them frankly puerile. The true reason was
that we were twelve strong, whittled down from an unbelievable
seventeen who had made themselves available for selection. The hosts failed to
assert themselves against some steady Weekenders bowling and, in
response, our top order led by a lordly lashing from Maloney got us ahead
of the clock and the target was reached well inside the final twenty
overs. Splendid to have our Founder and Marcy in attendance.
