Weekenders beat Roehampton by 32 runs.

Strange to tell, but excellent catching was the difference between Weekenders and Roehampton. 2 from Jeyaratnam at first slip and 2 in the gully from DaSilva plus d'Inverno and Orwell taking 1 each in the deep helped keep the pressure right on the opposition.

Weekenders were inserted on an interesting pitch. As so often, Hogben held the innings together with a gritty 54. Jeyaratnam biffed some late order runs with some support by Orwell to get us to 161 for 9.

Orwell bowled a fast, hostile opening spell which would have tested most batsmen. Hudson started his marathon spell at the other end with a testing combination of awayswing and incutters. The match was definitely in the balance when O'Higgins came on for his first spell for the weekenders and indeed his first competitive bowl for more than 20 years. Figures of 5 for 17 tell the story of a glorious return to action.

Apart from that, worth mentioning the oppo skipper wondering if there was some doubt in his dismissal. A little unusual, as he seemed to slice it off the bat to first slip.

Also the one glaring error that marred an excellent day in the field saw the Weekenders' keeper (Husaini) confidently call for a skier.... there was some argument afterwards about which weekender should have caught the ball - at least 4 were within a few yards of it when it hit the ground.

But I am now convinced that it certainly wasn't "mine".

Tea was good and supplemented by some post-match past-their-sell-by-date burgers on the Roehampton barbecue.
