After last
year's successful foray into charity cricket, we returned to play in aid of
'Kids in Kathmandu'. The home side batted first and were reduced by a rampant
Dibley to 27 for 6. It was a rare opportunity for the Weekenders to close down
a game and get to the bar early.
But with raffle stalls and photos of Nepalese children being erected
round the boundary in expectation of a full day's fund-raising, Captain
d'Inverno had no option but to release the stranglehold. The hosts closed on
152-9. Our batting, with the exceptions of Fox and Shimoga, was similarly
charitable. The game raised over £700, much of which came from sales of signed
(though indistinct) photos of Tony Smee in 'Return of the Jedi'.
