WCC v Roehampton 30.6.13

Roehampton 121

WCC 127-5

WCC won by 2 wickets

Pull-outs and misunderstandings, compounded by a plague of injuries and indifference,  made for an unusually trying week for your hapless correspondent. At ten past two I led a team of seven onto the Telegraph Road ground. With the arrival of our last man we were up to eight - then back down to seven again when our 'keeper, Saurabh, had to dash home for a couple of hours to deal with his plumber. Thanks to an oppo sub and Raj's daughter Nicky tirelessly covering the whole of the leg side behind square, the bowlers enjoyed more support than seemed likely. For no apparent reason, the fielding was committed and alert. Sood tormented the hosts with movement both ways and, with steady pressure at the other end from Shimoga, Roehampton were held to 121 - about 200 fewer than they should have made. Raj Sood and Rob Cooper (of the Dodgers) knocked off the runs without difficulty in 26 overs. Funny old game.
