The extended Husaini household provided six players to bolster this mid-week T20 frolic against the Department of Transport’s men at Chiswick. The Dodgers enlisted members of South Bank University’s squad to reach an XI, while the ‘Enders had to make do with ten. Captain Husaini opted for a varied bowling attack, with nine bowlers turning over their arm. The highlight for many was fourteen-year-old Freddie Grimwade’s Hadlee-esque fast-medium, claiming 2-11. However, with a sizeable contribution from F! Extras, the Dodgers posted an imposing 147, requiring a batting response of more than seven per over.
There was a mandatory retirement score of 25 which both Sharma and Orwell invoked, but most found the going tough on the sluggish pitch which contrasted with the rock-hard, pitted outfield. By the final over, even the dynamic Grimwades were left with too much to do.
(A lovely evening in Chiswick)
