Not quite the galácticos line-up of last year and played at Aston Rowant instead of Arundel Castle - but an enjoyable outing, by all accounts. Lengthy-crease occupation by Captain Cohen and Tim Whittome (eventually winkled out by Jules and Nas respectively) amassed an imposing target. New faces of local lad Knowler and Worcs Over-50s D. Waugh added extra bite with the ball. Toby & Dom started watchfully and Hoggers threatened a counter-attack, but it was eventually left to Bhuvan, aided by Jules and Husain, to secure the draw with an hour-long batting vigil.
As a queasy post-script, Hon Sec’s redoubtable Volvo estate wouldn’t start after the match, so he was towed home by a man volubly complaining of a troubled colon. Many of us have learnt that Chris abhors verbal diarrhoea on car journeys down the M40, but I suspect even this would be preferable to the actual kind.
