NUTHURST
Boys check the start time with the manager.
Nuthurst play on the village green at Mannings Heath, a couple of miles South East of Horsham in Sussex.
From London, the best bet is probably down the A23 to the
Handcross turnoff (just south of Horsham), then on to the A279 for a little
while to Lower Beeding. Turn right at Lower Beeding onto the A281. After a
couple of miles or so, you will find signs for Mannings Heath off to your
right.
Head for the village hall in Golding's Lane. The ground is
right opposite, and you park behind a row of tall fir trees in Green's Lane
(this will make perfect sense when you get there). Please resist any temptation
to park on the Common itself. This is against local by-laws, and the police
have been known to pinch cars, even on a Sunday.
The Dun Horse on the corner is the nearest place for
sharpeners. But the Oppo
drink at the White Horse in Maplehurst, which is a right turn at a
hamlet on the A281 called Monks Gate just before Mannings Heath. The food there
is good.
The Oppo has also recommended Mannings Heath golf club for any of you who might be interested. It’s on their doorstep and has two courses, the Waterfall and the Kingfisher. The Waterfall is superb, but seriously pricey; the Kingfisher is comparatively new.
